São Paulo International Short Film Festival

Organization
Founded and directed by Zita Carvalhosa, the Festival is organized by Associação Cultural Kinoforum.

Festival Dates
The 17th São Paulo International Short Film Festival will take place in August 24th to September 2nd, 2006.

Objectives
The São Paulo International Short Film Festival aims to promote a greater exchange between Latin American and International production. Having a cultural and non competitive feature, the festival intends to exhibit films that may contribute for the development of the short film concerning its aesthetics, specific shape and way of production.
Although the festival has a non competitive profile, the audience may vote and a list of the 10 (ten) audience´s favorites will be announced during the closing ceremony. The event is also opened to other partnerships with different short film promoters resulting in different awards that are also announced during the closing ceremony.

Entry Conditions

  • Open to film and video formats: 16mm, 35mm, miniDv/NTSC, Dvcam/NTSC, Beta SP/NTSC
  • Maximum running time: 35 minutes (for films) and from 3 minutes to 15 minutes (for videos) - Productions of all genres completed after January 1st, 2005 - If the dialogue language is not Spanish, English or Portuguese the film must be subtitled into one of these languages
    Note:
    only 16mm and 35mm, mini-DV, DvCam/NTSC, Beta SP/NTSC can be screened.


Entry Procedures

  • Entry forms should arrive in São Paulo before May 31st, 2006 (International entries) and before June 15th, 2006 (Latin American entries) accompanied by: - VHS (NTSC or PAL) or DVD.
  • The festival will NOT cover any shipping costs or taxes regarding the viewing material.
  • 2 still photos
  • Subtitle list in English or Spanish. (indispensable for the electronic subtitles) and - Any other document that might help the selection, the catalogue and publicity purposes and this material shall be sent to the festival office at:

  • A commission assigned by the organization will select the films. Entrants will be notified of the selection results until July 12th, 2006.


Shipping Procedures
The organizers would rather suggest the prints should be sent by courier service (preferably FedEx) to the Embassy or other official representation of the country concerned. All the packages must be labeled "ONLY FOR CULTURAL PURPOSES/ NO COMMERCIAL VALUE". All the dispatches must be accompanied by a pro forma invoice amounting to maximum US$ 5,00, no higher amounts will be accepted by the festival organization. (any and all costs arising from wrong declarations will be charged to sender's account) The insurance of the copies comes into effect at the moment the film arrives at festival's office or it has been received by the festival's broker agent at São Paulo Airport. The insurance remains in effect until the film is reshipped. Dammage to the film print must be reported to organization in writing within 10 (ten) days after its return. The deadline for selected films and videos to arrive in São Paulo is August 10th, 2006. All the expenses related to dispatch of the preview tapes and screening prints are on the charge of the person who submits the film, the sender.

Festival Tour
A Festival Tour will be organized the week immediately after the festival and only formally pre authorized films will be exhibited.

Return of the Prints and Exhibition Videos
The costs of returning the films and videos will be on the organizers.
The works will be returned within two weeks after the Festival, to the address informed on the entry form unless other agreement has been made before the beginning of the festival.
Participation in the Festival implies recognition without reservation of these regulations and entry form.
